Knowledge of the world is an area that has lost some of its focus in the EYFS curriculum yet young children are fascinated by the world in which they live and in the ways in which it works. This book re-emphasies the importance of this vital area of the curriculum and offers thoughts on how these can be introduced in the EYFS programme. Building on good scientific principles the books offers practical ideas on the teaching of science to the youngest children given them firm foundations for the statutory curriculum.

This is an excellent book that will give any early years teacher ideas for how to develop many scientific concepts from birth to 5, as well as knowedge of the topics at an adult level, providing theoretical understanding for the teacher.

Clear and concise. This book is easy to read. It provides good background knowledge with clear links to how each area of science can be approached within the setting. It is great to see the development of babies also considered. Observation points are also included, offering a useful focus for assessment. Highly recommended for early years practitioners.
This will be a very useful text for our Early Years students who are often forgotten about in Primary Science textbooks. The book has lots of ideas and activities which are relevant and engaging and the relevant knowledge and understanding is included too. I shall certainly recommend this book to our Early years trainees. This text has been added to our reading list and copies are being purchased for the library.
