Andrew Maliphant The Community Works

Andrew Maliphant has been working in regeneration since 1988, when he left the private sector to study Heritage Management at the Ironbridge Institute in Shropshire – in effect the first UK postgraduate course in all aspects of regeneration.

Since then he has worked on town centre regeneration in Ulverston in Cumbria, in Cinderford in the Forest of Dean, and in the City of Gloucester, and on breaking cycles of deprivation in Oxfordshire housing estates, all of which required partnership working across all sectors to deliver multi-agency projects.  He is now working on local regeneration as a clerk for a rural parish in Gloucestershire, having been chair of a community library co-operative, and co-ordinator of a project to support new start-up businesses.  He describes what he does as ‘helping people to help themselves’.  Andrew has published articles on sustaining community projects based on environmental work in Hampshire, and a perspective on the social regeneration of Gloucester city centre, but this is his first book.
