Analysis in Qualitative Research
- Hennie R Boeije - University of Utrecht, Netherlands
The author sets out an easy-to-use model for coding data in order to break it down into parts, and then to reassemble it to create a meaningful picture of the phenomenon under study. Full of useful advice, the book guides the reader through the last difficult integrating phase of qualitative analysis including diagramming, memoing, thinking aloud, and using one's feelings, and how to incorporate the use of software where appropriate.
Ideal for third year undergraduate students, master students, postgraduates and anybody beginning a research project, the book includes examples covering a wide range of subjects - making the book useful for students across the social science disciplines.
Hennie Boeije is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Methodology and Statistics of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at Utrecht University, The Netherlands.
Well written , accessible and covers all the essential requirements for PG qual analysis. The book is not solely dedicated to analysis, there are chapters on the research design and ethics (which are covered equally well in numerous other texts). Chapter on integrative procedures is very useful. Each chapter signpost key further reading thro' a section titled 'Readings I learnt from' - which I feel is an interesting way of personalising the section and may inspire learners to engage in further reading.
We advise this book to our student who are going to conduct qualitative research for their master thesis
Excellent book, but I couldn't fit it into my existing syllabus.
We will stop using this book next year.
Good standard
Student friendly
A very good book on qualitative data analysis for beginners, the book is well written and easily accessible. The author provides examples of coding and guides the reader through the integrative phase of analysis.
This book covers the basic functions that is required to analyze data. Most just focus on the philosophical or process requirements, this text however goes to the technical requirements of what is done with data once you have it. How to break down, analyze and present data into meaningful components.
This text addresses analysis of qualitative research in a variety of ways which should be helpful for students. I especially like the sections regarding mixed method analysis and the 'think aloud' section as this is similar to a tutorial! I look forward to seeing how students respond to this text.
A well written and easy to read book. This book is recommended for any student involved in a research project. Some useful tips suggested on how data can be analysed and coded. A book that you can dip in and out of. Well recommended.
A well written book suitable for any student involved in a research project. A book that you can dip in and out of. Some excellent tips given throughout for analysing and coding data. Well recommended.
