Keeping the ‘L’ Plates: Life-Long Learner

This is a useful, practical guide for student teachers and NQTs to support their ability to evidence The Teachers’ Standards. Supported by academic literature and theory, each chapter  unpicks the language used in each of the standards and  makes it more accessible; this would make it easier to  engage in professional dialogue and to set professional  targets. The layout of the text makes it easy to use, especially to dip in and out of. A valuable companion text.

This straightforward and accessible book will be a valuable addition to every trainee teacher’s toolkit. It not only provides essential guidance on the components of each Standard, the theory that underpins them, and advice on how to evidence them, but also brings them alive in the classroom with practical examples and useful top tips.

So much of what we provide for the students is linked to the Teachers' Standards, that to have a book that gives clear guidance will be an invaluable resource. The book is very clear to follow and has excellent top tips and practice examples as well as areas to consider linked to the section that is being covered. Not only will this book be helpful for developing teachers, but also to take on with them into their career so they can see how to further develop in each area.

When students first start the course they struggle to understand the details of the teachers' standards. This book clearly presents each standard with discussion and practical application. It usefully guides students through expectations and how to meet them. This book is very useful on our professional studies modules.

This book is a very good starting point for our trainees to begin reading about ICT tools and apps that may be used within their teaching practice, but also as a starting point for their ICT assignment.
The website with additional resources and handouts is an added bonus.

A thorough and insightful guide to the teaching standards. I will be discussing aspects of this text with trainees as it will be useful for them to see how the standards can be evidenced in different ways.

A key text that will enable all students from Level 4 to Level 6 to develop critical analysis of all issues surrounding the standards. An easily accessible text. The case studies and reflective tasks are extremely useful for students who have limited practice experience.
