Reflective Practice in Social Work

Fourth Edition
Edited by:

March 2016 | 200 pages | Learning Matters

Reflective practice is at the heart of becoming a competent and confident social worker. It’s both a key element of learning and development on social work courses and an important aspect of social work practice. This accessible and introductory text explores a range of approaches to reflective practice that aims to help students become more confident in answering key questions, including 'what is reflective practice?', ‘how do I develop as a reflective practitioner?’, ‘how do I maintain reflective practice in key contexts?’.  There are sections on writing reflective journals, communicating well with service users and carers and reflective practice while on placements.

Reflection, as a key area in social work, is addressed well in this book. In addition to introducing models, what the contributors do is to show students how to reflect, and how to apply it in practice, in different professional settings.

I really like this range of books. The students also find them accessible. This book in particular covers the aspects of the subject that we would consider critical. I have asked some of my tutees to have a look and give their view and they agree. I like the way it relates concepts to examples. students report that this helps them learn, understand and apply knowledge.

What a fantastic book for students who are required to engage in reflective practise during their work. It is not only valuable for social work/care students but also would be useful for anyone who needs to dwell on their positionality during research/work placement

Excellent resource for students undertaking the practice learning modules and preparing to write their academic assignment which reflects on practice.
