'Well written and thoughtfully structured, this highly accessible, lively text offers the reader a contemporary and comprehensive introduction to psychodynamic practice. Howard provides lucid explanations of core psychodynamic ideas and skills rooted in engaging clinical illustrations. It will be an invaluable companion both during and beyond training.' Professor Alessandra Lemma, Trust-wide Head of Psychology and Visiting ProfessorEssex University
Concise and clear- very well-writted
This little second edition explains the psychodynamic approach in a simple, clear, jargon-free style. The book is written for those with little or no previous knowledge of the subject. Excellent us of case material linked throughout, connecting theory and practice for the reader. It provides the reader with clear comparisons between what was proposed by the originators and more contemporary current thinkers in the psychodynamic domain.
A good general introduction to psychodynamic counselling but most students will use other Sage publications which cover the subject in greater depth.
Exactly what I want the students to use - a concise but effective summary of the approach.
Ideal for all counselling students as the content achieves the rare balance of being basic and understandable yet at the same time being indepth enough to be appropriate for any level of course. The physical size allows it to be read on the bus or in the bath!
this is an excellent book to overview psychodynamic theory.
it is practical as well as easily accessible to students in terms of linking to and with other counselling models
Like the handiness of the pocket size, prefer larger text for easier use. Headings very useful, very straightforward text and could be used initially for all students from L3 upwards.
