'This informative and thought-provoking collection of essays brings together theory, policy and practice for practitioners working with children aged from birth to three years old...It would be a great resource for students' - Nursery World
Good range of case studies enable the students to enhance their reflective practice. The further reading, and links to websites serves to extend their practice. Overall a well laid out, and accessible text
This informative and thought-provoking collection of essays brings together theory, policy and practice for practitioners working with children aged from birth to three years old and provides some useful case studies, points for reflection and discussion points in the usual Sage style. It is useful for students on Foundation degrees. The content, if anything, may be considered to be a little bit too general.
I will recommend this book to students. It makes clear links to theory and the case studies and group tasks are particularly helpful to help students link theory to practice. The presentation of this book is worth mentioning as the photos and discussion points break up the text which I think, particularly new students, will feel comfortable with.
Some information is now dated (ECM)
Group tasks, case studies and reflection points are useful for seminar use.
THE TEXT IS VERY ACCESSIBLE FOR A RANGE OF STUDENTS STUdYING YOUNG CHILDREN. There are clear themes that link with undergraduate modules, across policy,to implementing practice.particularly helpful for students to apply theory to applications with good suggestions for observation and principles of effective practice. The text also enables students to conceptualize scenarios via relevant case studies in each chapter and key discussion points for reflection.
Recommended to year one students to aid understanding of children's development.
This text provides information on some key concerns for early years practitioners. It poses questions and activities to encourage reflection. Clear links are made between theory, policy and practice. A useful general text.
This book has been recommended for those student completing the working with families module
the academic level of writing is quite high for level three students, but the content and case studies have been useful to support me planning my lessons related to children's learning.
Provides a good basic knowledge of development and learning. A good and appropriate text for students starting Early Years courses.
Excellent, practical resource for foundation degree students
A very good text that I have recommended to the Level 3 Students
This is an excellent general text, which is very accessible for students on both undergraduate and post graduate courses, as well as for those already working in the sector.
