Multi-agency Working in the Early Years
Challenges and Opportunities
- Michael Gasper - Educational Consultant and Researcher
Early Childhood Education | Leadership & Management | Working with Parents, Families & Communities
Getting multi-agency working right is an exciting but challenging goal in early years care and education; this book suggests ways to draw together the different professional ideas, methods and targets.
Enhancing the delivery of services to children, parents and communities is essential if we are to address the detrimental effects of poverty and exclusion. Looking at the Birth to 8 age range and drawing on interviews with Children's Centre leaders, the book considers:
- the benefits, and complexities, of multi-agency working;
- what enables, and impedes, good practice;
- examples of successful multi-agency working;
- what the 'new professionals' look like;
- international perspectives.
Suitable for all pre-school and early years practitioners working in, or organizing, multi-agency practice at any level, this book is relevant to all those working in Children's Services and useful for anyone studying early childhood or multi-agency working in practice.

I really useful book giving clear reference to theory but also giving examples of practice. I am recommending this text book to all of my level 5 learners.
Interesting book suitable for higher ability learners. This would be suited to the cache level 3 courses not lower.
Essential book that 'tells it like it is'. Students have enjoyed engaging with the materials and have often reported the ease of understanding Gasper's writing. A must have for an Early Years or Early Childhood Studies student.
Very good book that gives the reader detailed awareness of many of aspects of integrated working, particularly with the significant focus on this within our degree programme, where multi-agency working interweaves across all modules. Useful examples are particularly helpful for students who have had limited experience of multi-agency working and the many different strands to this.
Used this book for my FD in Care and Early Years students and also Health and Social Care Students easy to use and good examples provided
helped with prep for multi agency module. Great book
A useful book that can be easily used by BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies throughout their studies.
This book provides a welcome and thorough exploration of the development, benefits and challenges of multi-agency working in the context of Early Years. I found the references to partnership working in other countries to be particularly interesting in the way they draw out how some aspects of partnership working are universal. Each section contains 'Points for reflection' - a welcome reminder of an essential part of the process for all of us, and an opportunity to pause and apply what we've just read to our own practice. By exploring why partnership working matters so much (especially why it matters to communities, families and children) the book draws out some of the key opportunities we can sometimes be too busy to see when we are dealing with frequent shifts in agenda and constant change.
useful and clearly written
Excellent support for core module on MA working
