Lia K. Roberts is Professor in the Department of History and Political Science at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles, California. Professor Roberts’ research interests include Latin American politics, democratization, the politics of economic reform, women and political participation. She teaches courses in the area of international relations and comparative politics. Courses include international relations, introduction to comparative politics, the politics of developing countries, the politics of terrorism, Latin American politics, African politics, women in developing countries, U.S.-Latin American relations, international political economy, globalization and democratization, and political methodology (quantitative methods, the comparative method, and survey research).

Professor Roberts currently serves as MSMU’s Academic Director, Center for Global Initiatives and the Co-Coordinator of MSMU’s Global Women in STEM and Policy Undergraduate Research Training Honors Program. She is a Co-Principal Investigator on a National Endowment for the Humanities funded project on gender and the US/Mexico border. She is also the Director of the International Relations minor.

Professor Roberts’ research interests include Latin American politics, democratization, the politics of economic reform, representation and public opinion in new democracies, and popular responses to globalization (especially from women and the informal sector). She received her PhD in Political Science with areas of emphasis in International Relations and Comparative Politics from University of California, Santa Barbara; MA in Political Science, University of Tennessee; and B.A Political Science and Psychology, University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
