I found the 2nd Edition of The Nature of Leadership to be a thorough examination of leadership with an additional focus on prompting researchers and practitioners to move toward theory integration as a means of further advancing the study in this field. Theory building and theory integrationinvolving levels of analysis is no simple task to accomplish, but The Nature of Leadership provides an excellent road map for those interested in both.

This book is a good way to begin the leadership journey. It puts together different theories and approaches to leadership from an academic and teaching perspective. It discusses at length the nature, nurture of leadership, major schools of leadership and the leadership domains with full academic references to research and existing literature. This book shows how to make the kind of difference that all organizations, both public and private sector, want and need. Early chapters show the powerful effect leadership can have on organizations, subsequent chapters present new ideas that are elegantly simple, conceptually coherent and radically different, based on the best research in the field. The ideas in this book have also been tested in major multinational organizations over recent years. The aim is to provide leaders and those who work with them with a practical guide to how to increase the effectiveness of leadership in any organization. Clear analysis of effective leadership and how leadership teams need to work together to be complete. Amidst the clutter of books on leadership, this book stands out. It helps make sense of a whole range of leadership theories and integrates it all into the authors' own compelling view of what makes leaders effective. It would have been more meaningful had the case studies had been included in the text rather having to search for them on the web. Overall, however, the book accomplishes its intended purpose for its ideal audience by providing practical suggestions on becoming a better leader. A wealth of information is presented in an unassuming style that should appeal to both students and practitioners.
