The Landscape of Qualitative Research
- Norman K. Denzin - University of Illinois, Urbana - Champaign, USA
- Yvonna S. Lincoln - Texas A&M University, USA
The Landscape of Qualitative Research, Fourth Edition aims to put the field of qualitative research in context. It offers background on the field, starting with history, then action research and the academy, and the politics and ethics of qualitative research. It then isolates what we regard as the major historical and contemporary paradigms now structuring and influencing qualitative research in the human disciplines. The chapters move from competing paradigms (positivist, postpositivist, constructivist, critical theory) to specific interpretive perspectives, feminisms, racialized discourses, cultural studies, sexualities, and queer theory. It concludes with consideration for the future of qualitative research.
Although the book provides an excellent foundation of understanding epistemology and phenomenology, the book is probably better suited to students undertaking a BSc in year 3/4 or undertaking an MSc.
For teachers undertaking research this is an excellent text
This is part of an excellent series of texts relating to understanding the nature of qualitative research. I have recommended this book (and the series) to my students as novice researchers who are grappling with the dynamic nature of qualitative research
The book is a valuable survey over the great variety of qualitative Research styles. Perhaps more than other books with similar aims, Denzin et al manage to highlight the worldviews accompanying the various modes of qualitative research.
This classic text is recommended for students undertaking qualitative research studies at the dissertation stage of their Masters programme. It is also going ot be a recommended text for Developing Research and Evaluation Skills.
It's an excellent book, particularly for students who are more able and want to know more about the background and origins of qualitative research
Denzin's work continues to remain right up-to-date. Concepts that have been considered are revisited in relevant ways which are well-considered and easily accessible.
First time I will use this as a recommended read for students. A very useful book for advanced teaching research programmes. Well structured to use alongside a course.
Each chapter provides an in-depth analysis of issues in the field. A good read on a wet windy evening.
Recommended for anyone undertaking qualitative research and to understand the methodology better. Useful theory for all practices.
An excellent book, particularly suited for post graduate students. Well written and informative
Excellent articles -- but not so many as to make it impossible to include other readings.
