Social Policy and Social Work
An Introduction

Second Edition

June 2017 | 336 pages | Learning Matters
An understanding of social policy is crucial for social workers as it underpins and shapes the legislative framework that they work within. From safeguarding service users and enabling them to improve their lives, to protecting the most vulnerable in society, social policy also has a vital role to play within social work education. It is important therefore for students to engage critically with social policy. This book introduces policy and shows how it has changed and evolved over time, how it reflects changes in society and how it is applied to everyday practice.

CBQ reviews

Excellent book for core legal frameworks and policy modules. Layout of book is appealing and informative without being over complicated. Sections are clear and example of policy in practice are explained well. The size of the book is useful to carry along in a laptop bag/trolley for a quick reference whilst on the go too!

Our students study a number of aspects related to social policy, but more importantly, social policy underpins the practice of social workers. This is an accessible resource for learners and whilst we have not made it mandatory, it will be highly recommended as their first foray into the world of academic reading.

This book is a pleasure to read in an ever-changing political climate. Its foundations means I can use it in a number of modules to provide an explanation for why poverty is so prevalent
