Qualitative Research for Quantitative Researchers
Qualitative Research (General) | Research Methods (General) | Social Research Methods
The book gets you up to speed on the specifics of qualitative research, while showing how it complements quantitative research and how to draw on and hone your existing skills to conduct impactful research. It covers the whole research process, from explaining what theories are for and planning your research design, through gathering and working with your data, to developing good practice in research reporting and dissemination.
The book also:
• Showcases the value of qualitative research, helping you understand its relevance, credibility and validity.
• Grapples with how to decolonise your approach, do research in an ethical and inclusive way, and debias your thinking.
• Challenges you to rethink how you conduct research and choose the most appropriate methods for your project.
Giving you a fuller understanding of methods and methodologies to benefit your work regardless of the approach you choose, this book encourages you to discover the joy of qualitative research.
I really like how this book is written, in simple text and in chunks that are easily digestible. It is also novel that it is written from the viewpoint of coming from a quantitative background. A good read when starting out qualitative research- recommended.
The range of topics and ease of reading make this a great text for my doctoral students as an introduction to qualitative research approaches.
I also included quotations from the textbook in my presentations with regards to research designs. The critique on the "western" lens on research as a whole is interesting and important but it would be important too to contextualize more and also in detail. I would therefore also critizise the use of the term colonialism and its conceptualizisation in this book with regards to ethics and scientific quality criteria.
Excellent material to help support those on both mixed method routes and those from compulsory education routes looking to interpretivist models of research
This is an extremely informative book and meets the requirements of the programme
Simplified book which makes it easy to read and understand. It is highly recommended to both undergraduate and postgraduate students .
Really clear! The book explains complex concepts in an easily digestible way for UG students. The structure is logical. Would recommend.
A novel way of looking at mixed methods.
