SAGE joins Jisc’s Publications Router service to supply full-text articles

November 7, 2019

SAGE Publishing is now supplying full-text PDFs to Jisc’s Publications Router service. The partnership will see SAGE’s research articles distributed to institutions and automatically ingested into their open repositories, enabling them to capture and disseminate the outputs of their researchers.

In the initial phase, SAGE will be providing articles published under the gold open access model, comprising over 180 pure gold open access journals – with subscription content to follow at a later stage. Publications Router will provide these articles in the published version of record each day, with most arriving in participating repositories within two months of acceptance. Each article is accompanied by rich, authoritative metadata, including details of the applicable licence.

Through this initiative, SAGE continues to support its library customers by automatically populating their repositories. Publications Router enables this by matching incoming notifications to participating institutions using the affiliations of (co-)authors. Articles are then transformed into a format matched to the target institution’s system and delivered for automatic ingest – subject to the institution’s usual review procedures.

“SAGE is delighted to be an early participant in the Publications Router project,” said David Ross, Vice President of Open Research at SAGE.

“This is an important initiative, making the lives of institutional repository managers much easier and simplifying things for authors faced with an ever more complicated funder compliance landscape. We look forward to extending it to all our content in due course.”

“We’re delighted to be working with SAGE to distribute full-text content to institutional repositories in an automated way,” said Steve Byford, Scholarly Communications Services Manager at Jisc.

“This will help institutions capture and disseminate the outputs of their researchers in a timely and efficient manner, reducing the manual work they would otherwise need to do to achieve this. Importantly, it will also help them demonstrate they are meeting the requirements of the policy on open access and the REF.”
