SAGE announces winner of early research bursary for EERA annual International Conference 2014

May 28, 2014

LA, London - SAGE is delighted to announce Denise Mifsud as the winner of the European Educational Research Association (EERA)/ SAGE conference travel bursary for 2014.

The bursary sponsors an early career researcher to attend the Emerging Researchers Conference, taking place this year between 01-02 September, and the annual ECER 2014 conference, taking place this year between 02-05 September. The theme of this year’s conference is “The Past, Present and Future of Educational Research in Europe” and it will be taking place in Porto, Portugal.

Karen Phillips, Editorial Director, SAGE, said of the sponsorship:

“The EERA conference is a pivotal conference for helping to contribute to both discussion and research around education policy and practice. Part of SAGE’s founding principles is that education creates healthy minds and cultures, and educational researchers have a key role to play in facilitating conversations and debate around key issues within these disciplines. We are delighted to be once again supporting an early career researcher in attending this conference and aiding EERA in facilitating these conversations.”

Professor Lejf Moos, President EERA, further commented:

“We are very happy about the continuous partnership between SAGE and EERA and the conference bursary that SAGE is once again offering to a promising young researcher. EERA and SAGE are both engaged in the support of promising young scholars in educational research. This bursary enables young scholars to attend our annual conference, a prime opportunity for networking with professionals and joining the academic debates in their discipline. Attending ERC/ECER will, I am sure, provide them with an excellent chance to stimulate their academic research and further their career.”

The winner of this year’s travel grant Denise Mifsud, selected by EERA for her paper on " School Networking In Malta: Policy-mandated Collegiality As Experienced By The Educational Leaders", said of the award win:

“I am honoured to have been selected by the EERA for the award of the SAGE 2014 bursary in order to present my paper, ‘School Networking in Malta: policy-mandated collegiality as experienced by the educational leaders’. Presenting my research at the Emerging Researchers’ Conference and attending the Main Conference are a golden opportunity for me as a part-time PhD student as I would be able to network with academics. Starting off on a research career is very difficult in terms of income, limited opportunities and job hunting in the academia – this bursary is of great help in supporting my career as an emerging researcher in terms of exposure.”

Membership is made up of more than 20 national and regional Educational Research Associations from all parts of Europe. It is governed by the Council and the Executive Committee. The academic work is organised in thematic networks. From 1994 to 2008 EERA was constituted as a Charity under British Law and was based in Scotland. Since 2008 EERA has been based in Berlin, Germany and is constituted as a "Verein" (i.e. Charity under German Law) http://www.eera-ecer.de/about/
