An absolute must in relation to the child protection module. This is a really good book in relation to the application of neglect and emotional abuse the two biggest areas in safeguarding.

I found this book to be useful for level 4 and 5 students. A variety of case studies are included supporting students to link theoretical to real life. Useful across a range of modules.
An excellent text and accompaniment for child development and social work assessment practice studies. The book supports and guides social work practice, specifically through early years and beyond. Chapter 6 'Disorders and Development' is particularly useful.

This is a most welcome edition to the field of child protection and safeguarding. The book covers some of the complex issues involved in ways that are accessible to and facilitative of student learning.
A very useful text, especially when considering the difficulties encountered in classifying many instances of child abuse for legal and recording purposes.
This book can give students a greater understanding of the children and the issues they present with when becoming part of a nurture group. I have recommended it to my students who have found t to be informative and a useful additon to their study materials.
In society today areas of safeguarding and protection are detrimental to a child’s well-being; however with this said the subject of emotional abuse which has a life changing effects can be and sometimes is not given the recognition is clearly deserves. Yet Doyle and Timms have clearly identified and discussed such issues in this book which would raise awareness and give a deeper understanding to the subject , so I am of the opinion this text will be invaluable to any practitioner or student in the field of safeguarding and protection.
This is an excellent text, the impact of Neglect & Emotional abuse on the child is often under estimated and research is currently being undertaken to evidence the long term impact on the child. I therefore believe this is a valuable text to raise awareness and helping professionals work together to improve outcomes for these group of children.

Useful resource for those studying child development and assessing a child`s needs
I would recommend this book for both undergraduates and post graduates as a most accessible and informative book to date on this subject area. I particularly like the chapter 2 and 3 as the two assist in understanding and responding and provides the reader with food for thought to dealing with cases in practice.
I feel this book is one of those books that a practitioner will utilise in their every day practice.
