The second edition of Psychology for Medicine is an authoritative and important update that broadens its scope to reflect the contemporary evidence-base, and which uses meaningful case studies to illustrate key concepts and theories. It will be a valuable resource for all healthcare practitioners.
Whilst I appreciate this textbook is aimed at healthcare professionals, I rely on it as one of three core texts for an introductory undergraduate health psychology module. What I like about this welcome second edition is the inclusion of ‘healthcare’ in the title and material in chapter 17 that engages with evidence based medicine/practice and embeds the need for critical appraisal skills in contemporary healthcare practice.
The well-thought out design of this text makes it accessible to a wide audience. Case-studies, clinical notes, and activities designed to enhance critical thinking make it relevant to HE students, psychologists in training, and other professionals with an interest in the psychological aspects of health and healthcare.
This text book is excellent. The information is up to date and is presented at the right level for students of courses for whom psychology is only a part of what they are studying.
Good generic, easy to read text, that is well referenced. Applicable to all fields of nursing, (especially mental health) and also allied health professionals.
A highly accessible textbook that covers major domains of the psychology of health and illness. A must-have source for anyone who teaches psychology to health professionals and medical students.
Psychology for medicine and healthcare is a very easy to use book. It is written in a manner which is very accessible for students and will be of great use. I particularly like the review questions and the coloured research boxes within each chapter which easily capture attention. A good overview of the place of psychology within the medical field.
