Managing Behaviour in Further and Adult Education

Third Edition

December 2013 | 132 pages | Learning Matters
This practical guide to managing behaviour in Further and Adult Education is for all those training to teach in the sector. The third edition includes new chapters on 14-19 learners and behaviour theory and continues to offer practical ideas on how to manage and motivate students. It takes account of the variety of contexts in the sector and makes reference to important research findings and studies of learner behaviour. Based firmly on what teachers and students have to say about their experiences, it uses case studies, dialogue and journal extracts to explore key issues, and help teachers develop their practice.

A topic that so many of our vocational DET students want more input on, we direct them to Wallace's book as there are useful, practical solutions backed by evidence.

This book gives clear information and advise regarding managing behaviour. I found the chapter on adult education especially useful for members of staff delivering lectures to students because they are a specialist in their area and not a trained teacher. It is easy to dip in and out of and gives good examples via case studies.

A useful third edition update on an essential text with practical advice and useful case studies to illustrate key points. There are questions set to stimulate reflection on practice and useful summaries after each chapter. The book is very accessible and clearly set out.

For budding teachers this book provides details of how to positively manage behaviours in education. If used in conjunction with a CPD course, it could prove very productive.
If not actually used on the course it will certainly be recommended as supportive text

I deal with unemployed learners who have severe problems which effect their learning. This book helps those you are new to teaching and need help to manage these problems. Easy read and helps you achieve this particular unit towards your teacher training qualification.
