Law and Professional Issues in Midwifery

September 2010 | 264 pages | Learning Matters
Midwives are accountable to the public, patients, their employers and the profession. It is essential that student midwives have a clear understanding of the legal and professional dilemmas they face in the course of their career and how to address those dilemmas in order to practise effectively. This book is an essential resource for student midwives developing their knowledge and understanding of the requirements for safe practice. It provides a clear introduction to the subject, with activities and case studies throughout to illustrate key principles and apply the law in context.

This book would be one to keep! A great book demonstrating legal and professional issues in current midwifery practice. All student midwives should own one!

A well written and comprehensive text which will raise awareness of the issues in todays society and how this affects the care and professional integrity of the midwife. The text is highly appropriate and is well written especially the issues of consent in the baby and child. I find the Learning Matters texts to be very student centric and and to be well received by the students. They encourage further reading but give the relevant information in an easy to digest and retain process. I like the use of scenario and case study to encourage learning by the students an this will also enable self directed study to become second nature in the mature learner. I do feel this is a text that will also be of significant value to the practicing midwife too, and enables them to maintain their knowledge easily around a sometimes avoided subject.
