The Journal of Infection Prevention is the professional publication of the Infection Prevention Society.
The aim of the journal is to advance the evidence base in infection prevention and control in all One Health environments impacting healthcare systems. The journal provides a publishing platform for all health professionals and scientists interested in this field of practice. Journal of Infection Prevention is a bi-monthly peer-reviewed publication.
The journal aims to increase its multi-professional author and international readership base of professionals interested in infection prevention and control measures and best practice, including:
- Academics with interest in chemical, physical and biological measures to control specific pathogens, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and biofilms
- Infection prevention and control professionals
- Public health and health protection specialists
- Pharmacists and allied health professionals
- Primary care professionals including general practice staff, dental staff and sexual health specialists
The multi-professional and international Editorial Board are keen to support new authors and are happy to provide guidance on planning and writing papers for publication. The Editorial Board welcome manuscripts on a range of scientific and practice topics and are keen to support new authors.

The Journal of Infection Prevention is an international journal focusing on research and innovation in infection prevention and control primarily in healthcare settings. It aims to advance the evidence base in infection prevention practice and to serve as a platform for high quality translational research including the following topics:
- The application of infection prevention and control to Public Health including communicable disease related to One Health areas
- Advances in biological, chemical and physical strategies to combat outbreaks of infection
- Infection prevention and control strategies related to outbreaks of infection
- Infection prevention and control strategies related to biofilms
- Infection prevention and control strategies related to multiple drug resistant organisms and controlling antimicrobial resistance
- Decontamination of medical devices
- Infection prevention and the built environment: challenges, processes and assurance.
- Antimicrobial stewardship and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) where it relates to the prevention of infection
- Epidemiology, risks and interventions focused on healthcare-associated infections in health and social care settings
- National and international policy research in the field of infection prevention and control
- Emergency planning for managing infection prevention during pandemics, major outbreaks, and other significant events
- Governance and assurance in relation to infection prevention systems, processes and practices
- Behavioural interventions to optimise communicable disease and infection prevention practice
- Sustainability in relation to infection prevention and control processes, practices and equipment

Topics that are NOT in scope
- Diagnostics and treatment, including pharmaceutical clinical trials
- Veterinary studies not related to One Health approach and infection prevention and control
- Evaluation and efficacy of novel vaccines
- Laboratory methods, antibiograms and susceptibility studies unless specifically linked to infection prevention and control
- Communicable disease studies focusing on therapeutic treatment or trials
- Tropical diseases including epidemiological data
- Narrative and unstructured topic reviews
- Synthesis and antimicrobial evaluation of novel antimicrobials
- Isolation, purification and antimicrobial evaluation of natural products
Article form:
Manuscripts must adhere to the author guidance and be well written using appropriate academic and scientific conventions.
- Reviews pertinent to infection prevention and control practices, environment and systems.
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses/ metasyntheses (PRISMA and ENTREQ or other appropriate reporting guidelines)
- Scoping reviews (PRISMA ScR reporting guidelines)
- Original research studies
The editors may consider other formats such as Letters to the editors, commentaries, and guidelines when these are pertinent to the advancement of the field of infection prevention and control. The author will need to contact the editor to discuss article format prior to submission.
