Trainee teachers who are not scientifically-minded may find the prospect of teaching science daunting - but this excellent book is here to help and give confidence. It's a really approachable book, which demystifies science, ensuring teachers have the confidence to tackle the subject in the best possible way to help their pupils. This is a very comprehensive and hugely useful book to both trainee and practising primary teachers. It is directly related to the current curriculum, and weaves working scientifically through as it is intended to be experienced - through the science content itself. Learning objectives are highlighted, there is a good range of content and context, and the suggestions for practical activities will be of great support for planning and in the classroom.
A very concise supportive insight as to how Science should be delivered and supported within the primary context.
Explaining Primary Science by Chambers and Souter is a no nonsense examination of subject knowledge required to teach the subject at primary school level. A handy reference to curriculum links in England and Scotland is also helpful for the busy teacher or student. The video link to Sages website to view the video experiments an added bonus. These are quick snapshots to show what resources are required. as well as showing results of the investigations. I would recommend my students purchase this in preparation for their' NQT' year.
