This has to be one of my most often borrowed textbooks that rarely lingers on my shelves! Colleagues, doctoral students and masters students alike will find something of interest here--whether it be used as a reminder of terminology, or a quick introduction to a new field. With new material on surveys, secondary data, and digital research as well as a fully integrated supporting digital research, this new edition is still the clear and accessible overview of the practicalities of doing research in the 'real world.'

Fiona Harris
Associate Professor, Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit, University of Stirling

This stand-alone research handbook covers the “basics and beyond” of social science research in a detailed and student-friendly manner. Straightforward and sequentially structured, it contains step-by-step explanations of the essentials students need to know about qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques to help them complete projects from start to finish. Very useful handbook for getting undergrads started and helping postgrads stay on track!

This book is a very user-friendly and theoretically robust guide that will prove invaluable to researchers and students alike.  I particularly like the breadth and depth with which all dimensions of the research process  are  addressed and explained. The new material on questionnaire and surveys will be of great benefit and is a major strength of the new edition.

Professor Thomas Garavan
Edinburgh Napier Business School

This textbook is unequivocally one of the best resources any student can own if they are required to do a research project or dissertation. This textbook is accessible to all and each chapter is written in a language that is plain, accurate and challenging in just the right quantities. Every element of the research process is clearly documented and discussed; many different types of research is included. This will be my essential text for all my research modules in the future.

This is a large book - however the way it is written helps the reader to break down the sections to research and make them seem more manageable. It is a really helpful book and I will be sharing it with my students.

This is really helpful book that my students enjoy. It helps demystify research concepts in a practical and involved manner. Some books on research can be cumbersome to navigate but this book is written in a way that turns students on to research and not the opposite. It encourages the reader to think logically about the sequencing of the research process without making the process seem scary to them. Very worthwhile addition to my reading list.
