This book provides an excellent background of information for all teachers in view of the clear expectations from the new SEND Code of Practice and the continuing advance towards full inclusion. In providing a historical background to the medical and social model of disability as well as a clear definition and the discussion of some recent legislation, the foundations are set for the reader to have a greater awareness of where we are at this point in history.
This is an excellent text. The exploration of key issues relating to inclusive practice has supported our taught sessions and has enabled students to engage with complex concepts and develop greater understanding of inclusive practice. They have then applied this to practice during teaching placements. Module assignments have drawn on the ideas explored in the book, supporting students to make links between theory and practice.

This is such an important aspect of all teaching now and this book provides background information setting the scene and then develops specific sections enabling the student to develop their understanding which hopefully they will be able to observe and implement when on placement.

A really useful book for my Early Years students as it explains current policy & legislation, looks at the prime areas of the EYFS and good practice. The tasks, exercises and case studies are useful.

The book is well structured and written. It is useful as teacher students' handbook where they can have various approaches to inclusion and its needs as a summary. The learning objectives and summaries clarify the information as well as essential examples about cases in real life. The authors have cited the experts in inclusive education. Despite considering inclusion and diversity widely, the book focuses somewhat too much on inclusive education to help learners with special needs.

This book provides an up to date view of inclusive practices in schools. it gives some historical background to inclusion as well as guidance for teachers and other professionals to best support children with SEN in mainstream schools. As a behaviour specialist I have found this especially useful when considering how in 'include' more difficult children.
An accessible guide for teachers. Whilst I would not underestimate the many external challenges, facing teachers, seeking to develop a truly inclusive classroom, I really appreciated the key message; start with the child. It reminded me how easily the individual can be lost: replaced by a label. I could definitely see the value of the spiral model, too. Ultimately, I felt the book was empowering as it emphasised the professional expertise of teachers.
