The journal publishes original research and visionary developments across the full spectrum of robotic systems, from foundational methods to real-world deployment, with emphasis on intelligent, autonomous, and human-centered robots. It focuses on work that advances design, control, perception, interaction, and software for safe, reliable, and trustworthy robotic technologies in society.
What we publish
- Intelligent Robotics and Human–Machine Interaction, including perception, learning, adaptation, and interfaces supporting collaboration and trust between humans and robots in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, and services.
- Bio-inspired Robotics, including soft robots, swarm systems, and neural-inspired control rooted in biological principles of sensing, actuation, locomotion, and adaptation.
- Climbing and Walking Robots such as exoskeletons and prostheses, with contributions on locomotion, stability, nonlinear control, and assistive technologies.
- Robot Sensors and Sensor Networks, covering sensing principles, multi-sensor fusion, distributed perception, and networked robotic systems for robust interaction with complex environments.
- Service and Medical Robotics for clinical, therapeutic, assistive, and domestic settings, addressing autonomy, safety, workflow integration, and human–robot interaction for patients and professionals.
- Mobile Robots and Multi-Robot Systems, including navigation, mapping, exploration, cooperation, swarms, and distributed control in indoor, outdoor, and field environments.
- Robot Manipulation and Control, from basic pick-and-place to dexterous, collaborative, and task-specific manipulation in structured and unstructured environments.
- Robotics Software Design and Engineering, including architectures, middleware, formal methods, verification, real-time and distributed systems, and tools for scalable, modular robotic applications.
- Field Robotics, focusing on robotic platforms deployed in complex, unstructured, hazardous, or remote environments (e.g., agriculture, construction, mining, disaster response, underwater, and space), with emphasis on system integration, robustness, long-term autonomy, and real-world deployment challenges.
- Humanoid Robotics, focusing on humanoid platforms, whole-body motion, balance and manipulation, human-like skills, and operation in human environments, including social interaction, assistance, and collaborative tasks.
- Vision Systems for Robotics, covering visual perception, 3D sensing, scene understanding, visual servoing, and multimodal perception pipelines that enable robust localization, mapping, manipulation, and human-aware interaction in complex environments.
- Micro/Nano Robotics, including design, fabrication, control, and application of micro- and nano-scale robots and actuated structures, with emphasis on biomedical, environmental, and precision-manufacturing scenarios where extreme miniaturization and novel actuation or sensing principles are required.
What we do not publish
Manuscripts that are purely theoretical and limited to simulations without realistic robotic scenarios or experiments; work on isolated components (mechanical, material, or electronic) not integrated into a robotic system; clinical or biological studies where robotics is not a central contribution; opinion or tutorial articles; and work outside science and engineering that does not directly inform the design, development, or evaluation of robotic systems.
