This is a great book for undergraduate students. It gives an insight into the major issues,concepts, theories and treatments of drug use.

Ideal for my undergraduate students studying a module on 'substance misuse and crime' as part of a wider criminal justice based degree programme. But would be equally useful as a primary text in similar related disciplines. The author has provided the opportunity for readers to explore a wide range of issues concerned with the subject matter with particularly good research-based evidence surrounding prevalance, prevention and treatment. Jung provides sound analysis and criticallity and encourages the reader to consider alternative explanations and create balanced judgements towards the presented evidence.

John Jung has written a good, clear and basic review of the pragmatics of substance use. However I would have enjoyed a greater emphasis on dual diagnosis, and the other, wider psychological complexities that dog our understanding of how these difficulties continue to confound efforts at treatment, recovery and care.

This will be an interesting supplementary text for my students especially those who wish to compare psychological and sociological responses to drugs and alcohol

The book is current, comprehensive, and relevant. My students and I all enjoyed the book.

Really useful, no other books we have cover this topic so this is really welcome.

This book is an excellent source for students of nursing, social work and health & social care.
It is well written and easy to follow with a clear and concise summary at the end of every chapter.

I am no longer delivering the Youth at Risk module but it is a book I may consider using it as a supplemental book in an new module I am delivering. this new module is called Social Personal and Health Education. Once I have experienced the module once I may deem certain chapters relelvant to my students. I intend to order some book for the college library. This book would be relelvant for a number of other modules therefore have copies in the library will be useful.
