The Asian integration process has taken a new shape. Countries in Asia are part of several regional and sub-regional integration initiatives. A specialized journal is needed to reflect upon the Asian integration process. This journal provides detailed coverage of a wide range of topics in economics relating to Asia, including investigation of current research, international comparisons and country studies. It is a forum for debate amongst theorists, practitioners and researchers and publishes high-quality theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented contributions. It facilitates the exchange of information among researchers on a worldwide basis and offers a unique opportunity for economists to keep abreast of research on economics pertaining to Asian integration.

The regional integration process has taken a prime position in the world. In Asia, we have found the proliferation of several regional and sub-regional integration initiatives. Asian has been witnessing the two mega-regional agreements, namely, Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), of which CPTPP has been signed and implemented, whereas the RCEP is being negotiated at present. Regional integration process does not cover not only economic issues but also non-economic issues. The Asian integration process is discussed more extensively nowadays. There will be more debate in the coming years as Asia implements RCEP. The current and envisaged scenario thus leads us to think for a specialized journal.

A refereed journal, Journal of Asian Economic Integration carries articles by scholars, economic commentators, policy-makers and officials, and from both the private and public sectors. The journal has research articles, research notes, book reviews and review essays. The thematic area of the journal is Asian integration. Typically, proposals for themed issues by scholars interested in serving as guest editors may be considered as and when needed.

This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The Asian nations have progressively liberalized their economies in an effort to strengthen the regional as well as global integration and improve cooperation on a variety of levels. While Asian economies have taken steps to enhance openness, the region faces variation in economic integration between countries and sub-regions. Asian region continues to face many challenges of economic and social development.

The goal of the Journal of Asian Economic Integration is to become an intellectual voice on the current issues of international economics and economic policy, based on comprehensive and in-depth analyses, with a primary focus on Asia. As such, articles in the Journal will not be purely academic research. Instead, stress will be placed on identifying key issues at the time—spanning international trade, international finance, the environment, energy, the integration of regional economies and other issues—in order to furnish ideas and proposals to contribute positively to the policy debate in the region. Although the principal focus is economic policy issues, when necessary and relevant, international relations papers are also included.

A peer-reviewed journal, Journal of Asian Economic Integration carries articles by scholars, economic commentators, policy-makers and officials, and from both the private and public sectors. There are three types of publications: research articles, research notes, and book reviews. Special issues are also planned on specific themes from time to time.

The editors invite submissions that illuminate the distinctive features of economies in Asia with respect to their institutional characteristics, their development paths, their policy experiences, or their international engagements. The focus on a geographical region lends itself to empirical analysis, though theoretical pieces are also considered, if found suitable to publish. Work that places Asian economies in comparative perspective would be welcome. We look for papers that would pose interesting questions and analysis that would yield fresh insights.

The aim of this journal does not include news & current affairs.
