- Brandon C. Welsh - Northeastern University, USA
- Eric L. Piza - Northeastern University, USA
Crime prevention is an important component of an overall strategy to lower crime rates in American cities, towns, and neighborhoods. At the same time, there is a pressing need for developmental, community, and environmental prevention programs and policies to do more to bring about social impact and social justice. Crime prevention that prioritizes social impact is about harnessing the knowledge of evidence-based interventions and fostering systems change that is both meaningful and lasting. Social justice in this context equitably delivers crime prevention resources and promotes perceptions of fairness and legitimacy among individuals and the community at-large. Combining cutting-edge research from the leading scholars in the U.S. and abroad as well as critical perspectives from top U.S. policymakers, this volume advances a new framework for crime prevention and examines the progress that has been made and current challenges in attaining social impact and social justice.
